I see a few very tiny snails, about the size of a pencil lead. My tank is almost done cycling thanks to the bacteria in the gravel, but what do I do about the snails? Are they bad for the tank? They certainly don't like ammonia, because each time I dose it up, they are crawling to the top.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You could just leave them. Most species will not breed out of control, as long as you do not overfeed the fish.

I'd leave them, failing that, weight down a piece of cucumber and leave it until the next day, there should be quite a few on it by the next day, can throw them away then.

sometimes you might want to keep them. it depends on your substrate, if you have sand then it would be good to keep them, they mix up the sand for you. if not then they are usually annoying. most people use some sunken green veggie overnight to capture them.
