I got my first Betta today, he is now in my Rena 30 tank. He is a curious chap and the first thing he did when he was in the tank was pick at the white bits of gravel because he thought it was food!

I am not sure on a name so if you have an suggestions please let me know. Also can anyone tell me what tail type he is??

He has some damage to his fins (is there anything I can add to the tank for this?) but looks ok otherwise, he seems very happy in his new tank :)

Here are some pics:

Wow that is one gorgeous boy.
You can get water treatments with aloe vera in that is supposed to promote healing, you could try that, he doesnt look to have damaged fins.
How about nemo for a name? you could try looking through baby books lol
good luck with him i got mine on wed just gone, This is percy, pics abit blurred cos he wont stay still long enough

He is a gorgeous boy, congrats, a name will come to you I am sure! As to the fin damage, crystal clear water is the best remedy for fin regrowth!

Thanks guys, he is very handsome!

It's his pelvic fins that don't look quite right to me (look sort of fluffy and stringy) - can see it in the first and last photo. His caudal fin has a stumpy bit at the top so I assume this is also a bit of fin damage.

It will take me ages to decide on a name for him :D

Floyds mum - your betta is also gorgeous! Such a beautiful colour!!

he looks to be a delta or super delta. a pic of him flaring and extending his caudal fin would help to confirm that. im fairly certain he is not a vt.
as for his fins, there is a bit of damage, but does not look to be finrot. just keep the water clean for him and theyll heal in no time. also watchi him for biting his own tail- that could also be the culprit.
as for the "craggly" stringy anal fin, it lookks like there was some damage at one point (prob, fighting with siblings before they were separated) and it just grew in that way. you see that often with injury's healing. also some bettas fins just grow naturally like that. nothing to worry about in the least. he is a pretttyyy boy!
cheers

Here is a pic I got of him flaring his fins. Can anyone tell what tail type he is from this? Maybe half moon? Hopefully the top part of his tail will grow back!

I called him George

Thanks jennybugs. I got him from The Goldfish Bowl in Oxford, very good fish shop I must say. There was another Betta that I really liked in there (similar to mine but Blue and white), he had a red spot on his head so they advised me against buying him because it looked like a bacterial infection, which I thought that was very good practise! :)

Thanks for all the comments guys! He is such a sweet boy, loves his Hikari Betta Bio Gold but not had much luck with him eating anything else! Tried a pea but he looked at me in disgust! When he flares his face reminds me of Lee Evans lol

he is gorgeous...gorgeous george:)
looks to me like a super delta...if he were a halfmoon his caudal fin would spread 180, which it ALMOST does but not quite. very lovely fish nonetheless!
congrats :hyper:
