Well I just got done scrubbing the tank and setting it up ( Havent put substrait in or rocks or water) I also was reading the manuals on the filter it came with 2 emperror filters and there nice. After reading the manhual and noticing each filter has 2 containers for media of choice I have decided to go with sand as substrait and put crushed coral in the media containers. As soon as I find my strupid camera Ill take pictures and post pictures of it set up before I add sand and rock. I do have one question I guess and that is since im using sand as a substrait how many pounds will i need for a 85 gal tank and also what bottom dwellers would be good to get that will stir up the sand so I dont get harmfull pockets of gas and they must be able to get along with African Cichlids open to any suggestions. :good: Will post pics as soon as possible.

Ok heres the Pic of the whole tank.

Very Nice. I love the bio wheel filtration aspect. I jsut don't like the cartridge setups anymore now that I have used the AquaClear filters.

Can't wait to see it up and running!!!!

usually it's about a pound of sand per gallon. i have a 55gal for my african cichlids but i only used 50lbs of sand. it looks good. so i'll say that anywhere from about 75-85lbs of it would be good.

as far as bottom dwellers, maybe some syndontis catish? they dont really stir up the sand though.

Is there any way to not use the carbon cartridge and get a sponge for it?

Get some pot scrubbers that are plastic and use them for filtration. They have huge surface areas for the beneficial bacteria to go... You can use pillow stuffing for polishing the water but it needs to be changed often (every 2 weeks or so)

Your mbuna will happily rearrange all of the sand on a daily basis, so you really don't have to worry about that. Demm's right about a lb. of sand per gallon, however IME once I put all of my rocks in, I only needed 30lbs of substrate for a 75 gallon tank at about 1.5" deep.

i WILL POST MORE PICS UP AFTER THE 25TH. I get paid that day and gonna go out and get the sand and rocks and ammonia to get it cycled. And of course the crushed coral to add to my filter media.
