i got fry, no idea what they are yet, was just looking at tank & spotted 1 swimming about, then had a closer look and theres 11 !!, went and got a hatchery thing from the shop & there all ok, was wondering how long before i can tell what they are & how long to keep them in the floating box?? thanks if you can advise

Keep them in the box until they are big enough to survive with the other fish. The best way to gauge this is to get them to a size where they cant fit into the mouth of the biggest fish.

Feed them on Tetra Liquifry #2 if they are live bearers. I've been doing that and I have 0 deaths...all 5 are still alive, a nice mix of black molly and white sailfin molly!! :)

Keep your water conditions perfect, good filtration, keep up your normal water changes, and make sure the fry have access to food 24/7...they will grow pretty fast, keep them fed!! (and use a pint glass or a big bowl if you want to clean out the small area that they are being kept in coz their waste will build up and possibly cause a local nitrate increase)

Congrats!!

Usually with in a few weeks you should start to see their color come through, by a month old you should hopefully know what kind of fish they are or who they may have come from.

Feeding live baby brine shrimp will really enchance the fishes color and allow them to grow very quickly! Brine shrimp is very easy to hatch and you can pick up little kits at your lfs, or you can make your own. Also feeding the Livebearer's liquify food is good for them if they eat it. Also finely crushed flake food works well too for them.

Good Luck!! :good:

they need feeding all the time???

naa not all the time but alot feed them a good 4 too 8 times a day make sure you sython eny waste i.e leftovers and poo

My fry have access to food all of the time...I always make sure that there is food in their small breeding container and I will continue to add more as they eat it. I also clean out their container when waste builds up. They choose when to eat so you find that you have less to think about and they look after themselves!! :)

I'll have to hatch some brine shrimp soon...550g to try and get through!! :)
