I Got A Tank At Xmas :)

Hello all,

I received a 20litre tank back at christmas after not having kept fish since i was a little boy. I started in January with 2 Serpae Tetras and 2 Black Phantoms - unfortunately my LFS sold them to me having contracted White Spot (?) They were good about it and gave me some treatment but alas i lost one of the Phantoms.

Then last Sunday i picked up 2 Neon tetras, 2 Endlers Livebearers (sold as 'Endless') and 2 Cherry Shrimps. Also found a stowaway, some baby fish i cant ID, cant find him most of the time either as he hides from all the bigger fish.

Unfortunately the larger Serpae, Bruce, felt it necessary to terrorise the newbies, chewing half the tail off both Neons and one Endlers. He also had a go at the shrimps but they've taken to hiding in an ornament. Fortunately he seems to have calmed down and there have been no further incidents since Monday.

But i was wondering how long it will take for the tails to grow back, and would appreciate any assistance.

maybe it was just a bit of teratorial aggression. tetras can be quite nippy anyway. it depends when the tail grows back, i would use an anti bacterial med and do a wc and gravel vac just to be sure, the tail could be anything from a few weeks to a month and a bit

id put some melafix in that will help the tails

whitepot is caused by stress so it maybe not the lfs fault, it could have been from moving or high levels in your tank

oh ps Andrews - all the Black Phantoms in my LFS had whitespot when i went back to get the meds, so i guess it cant have been the move or conditions in my tank
