So I went down to my local LFS with the idea of buying a couple of black Mollies, or perhaps a pair of Gouramis
for my comunity tank - a 180L Jewul Rio.
This would bring me to 40 inches stocking level and was to be my final selection.
In a tank were these gorgeous red/white fish with blue and red irridescent fins - each about 1 1/2 inches.
The name on the tank was hand written and I misread it (ramirezi), and just plain didn't recognise them as Rams.
So I did the beginners mistake and bought them for their looks, having checked with the staff that they were suitable for a
community tank and not aggressive.
A quick search on the internet back home ID them as Gold Rams, a colour morph of the German Blue Ram which I didn't know existed.
I have read alot about GBR's and how hard they are to keep - and would have chosen Bolivian rams instead ....
So up went the temperature in the tank to cater for them - and a quick purchase of Brine shrimp and Bloodworms along with flakes.
They seem to have settled down very well, both eating and swimming around happily, and not getting or giving hassle to any of their tank mates.
But I am well aware that things can change v quickly, and that water quality is key to their survival.
I guess that I'll consider myself lucky if I still have them at Christmas - but they are really beautiful fish. I'll try and get a decent photo to post.
Wish me luck !!
