So... I have a 75 gallon with an aquatic turtle and 2 5.5 gallon tanks, one has a male betta, the other, a few cories I took out of the 75 gallon when my turtle decided he really did love fish (He didn't eat any for the first 6 months!).

My father looooves goldfish...::sigh:: He's been saying he wanted to get me one for the longest time and i told him I had neither the space nor the temperature to keep one (my apt. gets very hot!). He finally brought one home... a beautiful fantail, still pretty small. ::sigh:: For right now he's in one of the 5.5 gallon with 3 green cories. The water temp. has been about 80F, so I've been putting frozen bottles of water in the tank to try and lower the temp. When I'm home I turn on the AC.

Yesterday I went out and got a 29 gallon where I plan on keeping him/her. I'll be moving this weekend to a different apartment and I have no idea what the temperatures will be like over there. My question is, how do I control the tank temperature?? 2 water bottles seem to bring the temp. down to about 74 in the 5.5 gallon. How do I keep the 29 gallon cool? It's really hot and humid in NY right now and I can't possibly keep the AC on all day long while I'm not home, my electricity bill would be ridiculous. Is this temp. going to kill the poor fish??

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you could stand up a small oscillating fan, or get a clip on oscillating fan and position it so it blows on the water? That might cool it down but I'm not too sure. Just an idea. It'll take up electricity but a lot less than an a/c.

I hope the heat where you are is just a temporary seasonal situation? We had 100+ degree weather last summer but I got so sick I couldn't even worry about my fish at that time. The heat is supposed to be milder this year though.

Yeah, it's just for the summer. I didn't know if the fan would do too much. I have to give it a try. Thanks.
