i got a bubble tank today from pets at home it was £140 with stand & tank its plastic its about 14 gallons UK
has anyone seen it
was it a good idea getting one
will they be happy living there
on the box it says cycle for 24 hours !!!!! mmmmmm :look: :look:

As a rule of thumb goldfish require 20 gallons for the first one and 10 for each thereafter, and biorbs dont have a great surface area thus oxygenation is low... not good especially in cold water setups.

i have not seen one
what eles did it come with for example heater filter lights
when you say will they be happy living there what are they
if its agood buy or not is what u think is it money well spent
cycle is leave every thing running when new water is added as tap water contains clorine which is highly poisonus and it takes 24 hours to evapour rate

have you got a pic i would love to see it :)

i was thinking of getting a biorb but it wouldnt look right in my room.

jarcher he wouldnt need a heater for goldfish (as mentioned in title + the post being in the coldwater section)
cycling is the process of allowing sufficient beneficial bacteria to build up, and doing this with fish can take 6 weeks.

sily me
but cycling is waiting for the clorine to evapourrate
the bacteria can only build up if it has food to eat and if there is no food there is no bacteria the waiting six weeks is for maturation is getting the bacteria to brake down the organic matter in stages so the the filter can reach maturity

Its better than a four gallon tank but by no means perfect.. certainly not worth the money imho.

we needed a tank ASAP coz the fish started getting stressed

everyone keeps saying imho what does it mean

Sorry its not. Goldfish need a large surface to air ratio for oxygen transfer and the biorb doesnt really give that. Even if you filled it half way there wouldnt be enough room for a goldfish.
Can you take it back and spend yur money on a proper rectangular tank?
What size of tank are your fish in now and how many do you have?

Goldfish grow big. Depending on genetics they can grow to anywhere between 8 inches and 18. The average around a foot.
You have to think ahead when buying a tank, do you want one for the rest of their lives or keep upgrading as they grow.
Getting a tank for goldies isnt cheap but if you get the right filter then you can economise on the tank size. Filtration is dependant on the bio load the filter can hold. The more biological media the better. A juwel tank is great for the media but it does mean you will need another small filter to keep the water circulated.
For your two fish to see them through to adulthood you need around 50 gallons.
Of course you need lots of money and room to do that and not everyone can afford to.
You budget for the biggest you can afford and make sure filtration is good and with regular water changes and maintenance then your little fishes will be good.
You can get away for a long while with them being in a 20 to 30 gallon, but make sure you have test kits, cycle the tank first and do regular maintenance.
Theres always ebay or the classifieds where your money will go further, you dont have to buy new.
