Hey all.

I'm new to this forum, and it just seemed a good idea to ask some advice on which fish to put in a lil three gallon aquarium I have on my desk. Before you all pounce on me  - yes I have cycled it, using the fishless method, and it's been going for about three weeks - ammonia and nitrite are now at zero.

I thought about maybe a Betta? I know its a really small tank but Betta's are kept in those tiny little box things in the shop, so would such a small tank be bad for them? Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks!

Good, let us not start the whole argument again, since it is obvious that both sides will never see eye-to-eye on this issue.

that would be a cool planted tank with a adf though!

I'm not sure, but i think it is possible that the ADFs will eat the shrimp, depending on how large the shrimp is, of course.

I have had four ghost shrimp with my adf for about a week now and they just kinda ignore each other :)

Somebody mentioned a planted tank - what kind of plants should i put in it that would be small enough?

I did use to keep a goldfish in the tank a long time ago... I think it was a bit small for it though... Is there a controversy over how suitable such a small tank is or something?

-EDIT- Ok, I have looked at african dwarf frogs on the net and most of the articles mention that the only fish they can be kept with are Bettas, so that would work. But apparently they need either live or frozen food (they won't eat flake) and aren't that easy to look after. Anybody keep these frogs?

Another thing - is it possible to get hold of bettas which aren't all flowy and finny and specially bred? I don't have anything against breeding to make fish all those different colours and shapes, but in my experience fish with long flowing fins are weaker and can't swim as well as fish without. I've had long flowing fins on guppies nipped before. So can you get Bettas which haven't got those long fins?

How about a female beta then? Also, don't be put off by frozen foods, it's really not a big deal and it's very good for your fish.
