Today I came home from school and noticed my filter wasn't running. I checked inside and noticed that for some reason a hair had gotten into the system and had gotten entangled in the rotary blades, stopping them from spinning any more. Anyway now it's all fixed and the filter is working again, but I have no idea how long it hasn't worked and whether the bacteria dried up along with the filter media. I can only hope for the best at this point. I guess this explains the HUGE algae bloom I've had over the past couple of days, combination of brown and green algae. It's really ugly, and I've been wondering what caused it but now I know. Either way it's way too much for my 2 otos to handle alone, so any suggestions for how to get rid of it? I wouldn't mind getting more otos, but not too many because quite frankly I find them quite plain and almost boring.

Sounds like too much light to me also :D .... I hair stopping the filter (What kind of incredible hulk hair was that? ) would not be the source of your algae problems.

People have algae problems with working filters everyday  . I had a good amount of algae in my tank  , which has 2 emperor 400's and xp3 on the tank :flex: .

I reduce the time my lights are on and added couple of snails from my planted tank, its been 2 weeks and I can see a noticeable difference. :D :D :D

It was actually a pretty small thin hair tangled in the filters little spinning thingy, and it must have been the problem because as soon as I untangled it it started working again. Anyway luckily my ammonia and nitrite are still 0. The only reason I thought it was the filter was because the algae bloom started several days ago, which was when I think the filter stopped working. Also snails would not be a good solution for me due to clown loach. I'll try closing the shades so not as much light gets in though.
