hello everyone i need some help yesterday i checked my tank like i always do and i thought i saw a baby fish but then it was gone i didnt stop looking and then i saw it again so i quickley got my net and got my breeding box out and put it in there and then i saw another so i quickley got it out aswell to stop them getting eaten.
The reason im telling you about this is because they are an odd colour but they arent ill the head is yellow and the body is a dark brown im thinking livebearers because the fish i got in there are :-

4 dwarf gouramis
2 baloon mollies
2 guppys
2 tetras
1 dalmation mollie

but the babies couldnt have come from the guppies because they are 2 males and my 2 baloon mollies are 2 females but i dont know the sex of my dalmation mollie do you think my dalmation mollie bread with my baloon mollies or do you think myguppies bread with my baloon mollies im confused any1 got any advice .
im so sorry this post is so long ;) thnx

my 2 baloon mollies are silver
and my 1 guppie is blue and purple and my other guppy is red black and purple

the babies couldnt of come from my gouramis because i check my tank everyday and i have never seen any bubbles from the gouramis. ;)

How long have you had the balloon mollys? its posible they were already pregnant if you got them fairly recently as it can be very difficult to tell with them; are you positive the guppys are male? what type of tetras do you have?

i got neon tetras and ive had the mollies for about a week now but 1 of them is a bit darker than my other mollie

yes but i have never seen mollie fry this colour before they look like mini bumblebee gobys but i have never had gobys before im really confused lol :S

The five main coloring types of mollys are orange, sliver/grey, black, grey/black/white dalmation spotted and white; when you cross a dalmation or silver/grey molly you end up usually with a yellow/brown coloring with optional black/white spots. It is likely one of your mollys mated with an orange male while in the pet shop/fish farm at some point to produce fry of this coloring.

ps: how big is your tank? 2 neons are WAY too smaller shoal for them; you should be looking having more like 8 of them.

i am sure the guppys are male they have a gonopodium !
im still confused :dunno:

i did have 6 neons but my tank was looking cloudy so i turned up the filter and the tetras got sucked in im major gutted but now my filter is on low and ive still got 2 healthy neons.

you might be right about them mating in the petshop because when i went to get them they were in a tank with orange 1's and black 1's so i think you have cracked it for me thnx alot :D

Basically i am convinced it was your mollys; female mollys(like various other livebearers) can store sperm in them from a single mating for months on end and can produce up to 7 pregnancys using this sperm even if there is no male present in the tank. As i said it is likely one of your mollys mated with an orange male balloon molly and stored his sperm in her resulting in the fry. Either that or she was already pregnant when you got her; molly pregnancys can last up to 2months(although for most only take 1month).

Thats ok :D sorry about my slow typing though
If you want the fry to survive i would go and buy a breeding net and some liquid fry food like like liquifry no.1(make sure it is the livebearer one though as they have one for egg laying fish fry) or powdered fry food like "first bites" by hikari or TetraMinfry; if you go for the liquid fry food option feed them on it for about a month before moving them onto powdered fry foods and eventually crushed flake foods at 3months old.

yes you might be right but the fry are half yellow and half brown but the female is silver hows that ? :dunno:

do i have to get the variety of foods you just said because my 28 baby guppy fry are doing fine on crushed flake food.

i cant wait for the baby mystery fish to look like when they are atleast 2 months .
