Im going to start from the beggining. About 6 months ago (maybe more) I bought a baby CAE (little less than an inch) to clean up my algae. I was very fond of him, when he wasnt munching algae he sat right on top of the huge building in my tank in an exact spot. After a couple months, my bro came home which was when he started getting scared i think. So i never see him out anymore. He always hid in the ONLY hiding spot in my tank for bottom dwellers... behind the ancient building (see pics at bottom of post). He never comes out, only at night when i feed the dojo loaches. If he sees me he would zoom right back behind the building. I have noticed he grew larger. I tried catching him a few times by scaring him out, but then he would be way to fast for the net, take a lap across the tank and enter the other side of the back of the building, so it was impossible. I tried every so often for months. Today i was determined, but i had no luck with his usual course. But then i remmebered that my dad bought a small 3 inch net for catching fish we buy in the little baggies. So i put the 3 inch net on the left side so he might run into it. the problem is that the net itself is only 1-2 inches deep, and the fish im trying to catch is much bigger. So i tried, he would hit the net but he just backs up and swims out. After a couple hours, i cornered him on the left side of the tank. he kept on bumping into net while i tried to catch him with the large net (which is no help since theres rocks there). Finally he bumped into the little net, the net at that time had a little dent, so when he went in it he got tangled for an instant. I knew he can get out right away, so i instantly grabbed the net and surfaced it. I was so happy i forgot about the fish! he reminded me of him because in the little net he was splaching water ALL OVER THE ROOM. i then brang up teh big net and put him in it. Now he is in a breeder box until he is given back to the lfs. He is now 4 inches long.
The building he hide behind is the one in the middle. There is about 3/4 inch of space all the way through. Thats where the CAE hid. The building is about 16 inches long.
And this is the 4 inch, elusive CAE. I rasied him from a baby so i'm going to miss him a little.
