I set up my tank about 3 weeks ago. Following your suggestions here, with the tank being 50gal with only a 30" length, I kept it to 4 yellow labs and 5 peacocks.

And I guess I better move my other oto's too!

Thanks again for all the help.

Yeah it would be a good idea to move the rest. How lucky were you to get that shot. I see your having a bit of an algea bloom what to you plan to do.

That pic shouldn't be funny but it certainly is.

I guess its funny. It kinda worried me for a day. I even netted the fish and gently tried to remove the oto with a large pair of forceps, but he was having none of it. I could tell he wouldn't let go. So I got this great idea. I started feeding everyone, and because he seems to be the tank leader, he spit out the oto so he could be the dominant eater. Pretty cool huh?

As far as the algae on the back, don't know what to do. I could easily remove it but I thought it would eventually grow into something the fish could graze on? Is that right, or no?

Mike

Mbuna will eat alage but really its personal choice on whether you get rid of it or not. If left the Mbuna will eat some but not all. If you are feeding them a varied diet, they won't actually need the algae.

You might try getting a bristle nose pleco or two, if you get the adult size you fish won't be able to eat them, and they are fantasic algae eaters.

looks great, super job
any chance of dumping that blindingly ugly green pipe though??
thats what the eyes go directly to that and that horrid veggie clip
:D

great pic lots of nurition in otos  was the oto killed or is it ok
p.s nice tank

You think that veggie clip is "horrid" heck I thought I was getting my guys (and gals) in the mood for love. As far as the otto he was "spit out" dead.

One more question:

one of my peacocks (all five are twice the size of the yellow labs) is spending most of his time in the top corners. He will eat just as agressively as the others but otherwise hangs back. I know who is intimidating him, he looks fine, not too chewed up, but is there anything I can do to kind of even things out agression wise????

I don't know if this would even out the aggression, but how about repositioning some rocks (or getting some new ones) and making some caves for him to hide out? The positioning of the rocks means theres nowhere for a fish to retreat if harassed....

Maybe this would let them have their own territories...???
