The Betta Bug Has Bitten... Resistence Is Futile
Ok so about 3 weeks ago I called my local walmart about their fish keeping practices which were absolutely horrendous. I called and spoke with the manager, sent in letters to the store and the head of the corporation, sent in and handed out proper care sheets for bettas and went in, and called and bitched until something was done. Well I went in one day and ALL of the bettas had clean full cups and there were new sheets of paper up with pretty decent care sheets for the bettas. I was so happy
Unfortunatly I went back there yesterday for the first time in 3 weeks... and OMG, there were at least 7 dead bettas rotting away in cups, 3 cups had TWO bettas together in them, and about four of the tanks housed 2 or more males bettas. Almost live every fish there was shredded, pale, stressed and sick in some way. Well i took it upon myself to seperate all of the males that were together, and set out to find the manager, unfortunatly she wasn't there because it was easter, but I found an assistant manager and lectured him about proper fish care, and he called over the guy who was working in pets that day, poor kid was new and didn't know a betta from a neon. I felt bad for him, it wasn't his fault that the walmart corporation can't screen and train their employees properly. So I showed him out to clean their cups, and I plan on calling again and sending in even more letters, until something is done permanently. Gah!!
