...............well I would if I knew how ;)

Let me explain. My tank, 4 ft community, well planted, has been cycled and stocked for 6 weeks now (cant believe its that long - doesn't time fly  ) about 3 weeks ago I lost 2 fish - a zebra danio and one of my opaline gouramis :-( Then we went on holiday. My neighour was coming in to feed the cats so I asked her to just keep an eye on the fish and take any out if they died. I didnt want her to feed them as I was worried about over-feeding in a new tank.

Anyway just been round to say thanks and asked if any of the fish had died and she said no. Trouble is I do know that at least one died whilst we were away because my lone female gourami is no where to be seen. Also I had 15 cories and I can only see 10 (or possibly 12) now. Which brings me to my problem - if I have one - the only way to be sure if I had any casualties is to count everyone role-call style but much as I ask nicely the little so-and-so's wont stay still which makes counting so difficult. So do I just accept that I may have lost a few, or do I try and be more precise with my counting. If so the only way I cn think of is to move them into the hospital tank and count them back into the main tank but this seems a bit OTT in terms of stress?

Or does anyone have a cunning plan that wont stress the fish that means I can count them??

Maybe when you feed them, they all come out and you could try and do a head count. Thats what i do, i get into a right state doing it but it seems to work! GRJ :hyper:

The Gourami could be hiding anywhere since tanks anyways have loads of hiding places.

Corys can be shy sometimes so you'll probably never see them all at once.

Toss some food in, while they are all eating take a picture. This makes counting easier with a large group of fish.
