A friends purchase and wanted it i.d.ing. I was under the impression that they were spotty rather than stripy that's what was throwing me. I just guessed it was a Juvi? Unless it's a close relation?

I suppose the stripes could break up when it grows (a bit like a zebra shark). Other than that, maybe some kind of cross?

The definite vertical black band in the caudal fin is the giveaway, true Hoplos (M. thoracata) have a more uniform coloured fin. Much more acidic loving than true Hoplos.

yeaa it looks like my hoplo except from the stripes but tail bar hoplo sounds wright
