Hi everyone,

my girlfriend brought a brown tang last week and everything seem fine until last night. it suddenly got these pimples all over it with white heads. was this ich? because we put treatment for ich in last night as soon as she saw it. however the night before the fish was fine, eating and active, then the next night it had these spots. it was dead this morning.
here is the pictures of what it looked like. could anyone tell us what it was.

thanks in advance.

Welcome to Tang Life (and death). Powder browns and blues, and especially Hippo tangs are disease magnets. It's likely a strain of crypto.

Is there another fish in the tank - another tang - that could have harassed your fish? The immune systems of most fish are robust enough to fight off the crypto spores in the water. It's when they get stressed that their immune system loses its ability to fight disease. Hippo tangs, Browns and Blues are the absolute worst for this; I'm guessing their immune system isn't as strong as other fish.

I had a yellow tang with similar problems; between crypto and something that looked like cotton fungus, I didn't think he'd make it. The best medicine for him: a freshwater dip. Take fresh RO water and match it to the temperature and pH of your saltwater tank. Then, put the fish in, and observe. Depending on the fish, it should take 5-10 minutes. You should see any dermal growths fall off (the freshwater kills parasites almost instantly, but the fish can take it for awhile). If the fish starts losing equilibrium, or sinks to the bottom and stops swimming, take it out.
