well i was spawning a couple of bettas and i backed out..they were together for about 3 hours now and she was torn to shreds and layin on the bottom, breathing funny...i took her out and put her in her regular home with some melafix..maybe when i can find a less agresssive male, but not with this guy i dont think..do you think i did the right thing? or is this normal??
hopefully they had embraced at least one time and he's got a few eggs up there that will soon be falling...ill lkeep an eye out

3 hours.....

It takes much time for them to embrace

Does the male have a bubblenest?

That's sorta what happened to me... My male had never mated before and he is pretty old (maybe 1 1/2 year or 2 years old??) and i tried spawning him with my new female. She was full of eggs but he did the same, He didn't build a bubble nest and she was eager to see him and jumped out from her side of the tank into his, and he tore her up??!! -_-

it isnt for the faint of heart, the first time i prolly wastempted to pull the female out 20 times. You gotta use your judgement, but also remember that they will get a bit violent. It is something you will have to get used to being that fine line between normal mating behavior and abuse. all of my females and males come away with scratches and bites..

yes, he does have a bubble nest..i did EVERYTHING exactly how i was supposed to..just getting violent in there..both were virgins, the male probably about 8 months old..female..not so sure

do you think i could try it again? i still have him in ther with his nest and everything
