I have a spare 5 Gallon tank and soon a 10 Gallon after my fry grow up enough to go in my community Tank. Would my 10 Gallon be big enough for a few Angel Fish? How many can I put in it. I would like to get a pair. How can I tell when picking them out if they are a pair or at least male and female?

Any other advice?

Thank You

Unfortunatly a 10g is much to small for angel fish. Angels can grow to be the size of an adults hand. I raised angel fish for quite a long time and never put them in anything smaller then a 29g.

Msot angel fish, get around 8 inches tall, including their" feeler fins" and when they rub against the tank bottom, it causes damage and infection. I think the minimum angel tank would be a 20g high, or a 20g flat hexagon, as they are around 18 inches tall. I didnt check, but i am assuming you are a newbi( no harsh feelings) by the question. Angelfsih are very hard to keep, i just posted somthing about my angel fish, as i have never kept them alive for more than 2 weeks. I suggest you google angels and save for a 20 high. They are impossible to sex, unless you vent them, or wait for them to breed.

I am still new at fish keeping. I have had my tank set-up and running since July. I have been keeping swordtails and guppies. I have never kept Angels. I got the idea of getting them from a post on here with pictures of her angel fry. That and i have to extra tank and I am trying to get another type of fish to keep in it besides livebarers. I want to keep my 5 Gallon for the fry tank, and turn my 10 Gallon into a regular tank.

Any ideas on other kinds of fish that I can keep in a 10 Gallon. I would like them to be pairable, so i can hopefully have some fry. After new years I am getting a 55 Gallon. So they would only be in the 10 Gallon for about 2 months.

Sexing angels is next to impossible to the untrained eye. The male will sometimes have a slight hump on his head. The only sure fire way to tell is when the breeding tubes are down. The females will look like a dull pencil tip while the males will be more slender and pointed. Alot of breeders will use 20g high tanks just for breeding purposes. While this certainly wont hinder their growth it doesnt make for a very good show tank. Contrary to what alot of people may think, angels are quite easy to keep. Just be sure the water remains stable and they were acclimated properly. If you want angels I would buy from Tolak. You can be sure his are robust and healthy. Most angels from the chains are highly stressed and sick with undesirable backgrounds.

I still wouldnt do it, i would wait till you get the 55g. You could try some kribensis cichlids. They breed like crazy and are beutiful. They arent hard to sex. Google them. Or you could ask me, or someone else here, which ever you perfer.

I like the looks of the kribensis cichlids. I am going to read up on them some more. Any other suggestions of types of fish to concider. I may do alot of research and wait to get them till i get my 55 Gallon, That way I know exactly what I want, and what they need and dont need etc...

Thank You again

I think that kribensis are a good choice. Ive been deciding on what new fish i should get and ive been thinking about breeding fish. Ive learned that Kribensis is peaceful cichlid and is very beautiful in color. They are also a great chice for the novice aquarist. Anyway Kribensis is on the list of new fish i might purchase.
