I AM SO SICK OF PEOPLE EXPLOITING FISH!

Ok, so in the LFS the other day, saw a woman picking up onwe of those HIDEOUS betta kits. She had a poor, unsuspecting little VT and was talking to her friend. The conversation was as follows:

"So I think this guy will look good in my living room."

"Yeah. But you know, you have to like, change the water."

"Why?"

"Because it gets dirty."

"Hmm, well, I'll make one of my kids do it."

"Yeah, and you have to feed it too."

"Uggh, I have to remember to FEED it?"

People make me sick. IUt took all of my will power to just shut up and not smack the woman, save the fish and leave.

Also, a good frien of mine bought a betta, decvided she was tired of cleaning the tank, so she just put it back in the cup with clean water because the bowl was so dirty. Her cat ate it. SO what does she do but buy another one?


And today I saw a 3 inch long goldfish in a 1.5 gallon fishbowl at my other friend's house.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Ok, I think I'm done.

I feel your pain!! I often times hang out near the fish sections at walmarts, petco's and.. help the people out, more times than not they actualy appreciate it.. because they really didn't know and no one in these stores know either, it's pathetic.

When I was at the pet store earlier I guess a guy was taking his 5 year old daughter to get a fish. They picked the biggest betta, got the littlest tank available, didnt get any food or anything. He said that the betta was going to be very happy in its tiny tank and didnt need food or clean water. He also said that the fish was going to be the little girls FULL responsablity. Before they left the little girl was saying she couldnt wait to let the family cats meet the betta I guess she named poop. He looked kind of brown.

Are you serious? I ask that because that sounds just far too awfull to be true!! you should have suggestivly suggested that betta live like you and I, and they need food.

So irritating! How can people not realize that a pet even if it's a fish needs to be taken care of? It's a living thing for heaven's sake! Even plants need to be taken care of. Ugh.

there are some people out there who are just frickin idiots that need to get a clue if you have a dog you have to feed it if you have a cat you must clean its litter box why wont people give fish the same treatment because "its just a fish" how many dead fish will it take for people to realize that they are total morons. just makes you wanna go buy every fish and take it home where you know it will get the proper care. i think people should be required to take a "frickin idiot test" before buying a fish. but it will never stop and the fish breeders (major corporation breeders)and people who make fish supplies count on those kind of people to come and buy stuff with no knowledge of what they are doin ok i think im done

Its about education. The only reason they mistreat fish, is because they havnt been taught to respect anything.

If you want to make a difference, spend some time creating some betta care sheats, and speak to your lfs politely, and im positive they will allow you display them in the store if you construct them properly and with accurate information. Have manners and speak politely to the store manager, and explain your reasoning and im sure they wouldnt mind. Especially if you printed the company name, phone number or contact detailks and their adrress on the piece of paper!

at one of my lfs they hand out pamphlets about betta care when you buy one and general care when you buy other stuff( to bad all places dont do that)

this reminds me.. a gay couple came into walmart wanting to get just boy fish (figures ) and they asked a guy that worked there to just get a few male fish for them.. what did the guy do?? " i cant tell which ones are males im not fish expert i just bag the fish" so i kindly pointed out all the male ones to the man and the couple and the guy working there kicked me out ...

damn... that has to suck! i can imagine putting one common goldfish in a 1 gallon bowl but only becuase it has always been done but 2 OUTRAGEOUS!
