Well here goes yet another failed spawn. I am doing every single thing right, I condition these bettas not for 1 or 2 weeks but most times for a month. The spawning tank is set up perfectly, a 20 long with tons of plants, good sponge filter, heater set right to 82, my little half Styrofoam cups, a good hurricane glass and a nice big Indian almond leaf and what happens this time? The male has trouble figuring out how to wrap the female, she starts loosing eggs, then attacks the male when he keeps trying to wrap her so she can eat the eggs. I sat and watched hoping that both the fish would figure out what they were doing and heck no. She ate all the eggs, I gave up counting when I saw over 250 eggs eaten.
My favorite male is chewed up again and I am just all around depressed and annoyed. I only have two other females I could possibly spawn with this male, and I am not even positive the one is female.
Grrr I want more baby bettas, I have the time, space, equipment and homes for them once they're grown, it shouldn't be this darn hard.
