Hello,

I've been reading some of your posts and have found out a few interesting things about these beautiful bettas! :) Anyway, a friend is giving me a betta tomorrow and well, I've never owned one so I need a few tips from you guys to get me started on the right foot. First of all, will he be ok in my 75 gallon tank with a few mollies and cories and 1 dwarf frog?. You always see them in tiny bowls so do they prefer small spaces then? I do have a plastic 5 gallon one but would prefer not to use it and add him to my big tank. I do have a heater and air... my tank has been established for over a year with the same fish in it.

If you don't mind, please let me know at least the fundamentals of betta keeping. I am so excited to get him, he is teal in colour I was told. I want to do what is best for him so he will be happy in his new home!

Thanks in advance for your tips, info and advice.

You have a 75 gallon tank with only a frog, a few mollies, and a betta?! That's dedication :S
The betta will be very happy in such a large tank, but avoid strong currents. The like live plants, places to hide. Try to buy a "betta bed" (available at pet stores) so the betta has somewhere to rest at night near the surface so it can get air :good:

Great to have such big space for your fish. I'm an advocate of lightly stocked tanks. (going to have two betta imbellis in a 80 litre tank by themselves.) they do not prefer small spaces but rather can do better than most other fish in there.

He should be fine with your stock. Just watch for a few days if there is any fighting.

Actually, I forgot to mention my loaches, haha, then I saw your picture and thought - how could I forget? I hardly ever see them, but I do have 2 kuhli and 4 dojo loaches.

Anyway, that betta bed sounds cool, I will definately look for one! Thanks! :good:

I guess he is coming from a small Betta tank, so additionally to the stress of moving him he may be feeling stressed being in such a big tank at first, and having tankmates, but in a couple of weeks he should be fine!

Do you have plants in your tank, he would definitely like those to hide in and rest on. :)

Whoah...you have a 75 gallon tank and only 2 kuhli loaches?! Blasphemous! They need to be in groups or they get lonely...with your tank size, you can have like 10! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Or just get rid of all the fish and get 50+ :shifty:

I knew there would be something bout kuhlis. Lol. And yes that is true.
