Hi everyone. I am new to the website. I have had African Cichlids and had problems with aggression but I had a 25 gallon tank. We went to a restaurant and my daughter (16 months) saw the fish and loves them. I was thinking about starting this again. I have since sold my tank so I will need a new one. I am interested in a 45 or 50 gallon hex. What do you guys suggest? How many fish can I have? Is a tank and filter at Pet Smart any good? I want to keep them from eatting each others fins, that was the problem I had last time. Everyday I woke up my Cichlids were beat up.

Hi

Wellcom! I got my tank and filter from petsmart and I think they're pretty good. My tank has been running for about three months now.
One inch of fish for every U.S. gallon of water is a good rule of thumb. This only includes smaller fith though like corydoras catfish (2-4 inches), guppies (1-2 inches), and mollies and stuff. I wish I could have a 40-50 gallon  I only have enough space for a ten gallon. I hope this helps.

Don't get a hex, they're crap . They're difficult to clean, often much deeper than they are high, it's often hard to find a long enough stretch of glass to attach heaters or filter outlets to and they look very dated in my opinion. You are much better going for a bowfront or a traditional shaped rectangular tank. With a standard shaped tank you are much more likely to find aquarium equipment which fits it easily. If you are stuck for space, you are better going for a cube shaped tank rather than a hex.

:good:

:hi: to TFF by the way
