I found my algae eater dead last night, I cant believeit.
I think that it may have been when I had white spot he would have eating all the ich from the gravel at the bottom of the tank. And it wiped him out. thats the only thing I can think of.
everything in the tank is fine, the nitrites were a tad high but that would have been the dead fish causing that.

Anyone got any ideas why he might have croaked it. :sly: :/ :grr:

Sorry to hear about it. I dont believe that eating the ich would be the cause. If the nitrites have been high for a long period then that maybe the cause.

The nitrites where only at 0.3 so they weren't high

sorry your fish died chishnfips. my hillstream and kongkong plec both died as well after i treated the tank for ich. maybe they cant cope with the treatment, who knows ?

It was an Indian algae eater, the other fish seem to be fine, and the other levels are zero. I put some nutrafin cycle stuff in to lower the nitrite back to zero

Maybe slightly but not alot. The nitrite has always been zero for ages. But it only went up when the algae eater died. So i thought that cause there was a dead fish in the tank that would alter the levels.

Yeah but you've got to remember that these people want you to buy their products and they make products for amonia and nitrite so they're going to want to sell them.

Depending on what fish you have aquarium salt can be good for gill functio during a nitrite problem.

Would I dissolve the salt first, in warm water? How much would I put in a ten gallon tank?
