ok so i've had my fish in my tank for about a month now and I think its time to change the bag in my filter. Do I just go out to the store and buy the new bag rinse it and put it in there or is there something special I should do before I change it?

When stocking a tank what exactly are the problems with overstcking. I have a 10 gallon and I was wondering if I could put like 15 tetras in there with one dwarf gourami and a plecko"which I will be re-homing when he gets to big". I mean I have 5 tetras and the dwarf gourami in there and they have no problems.

Third when cleaning my tank what works best for you. I'm ging to get a gravel filter and there not that expensive so I figured that would work but my plecko isnt cleaining anything off the wall of the tank. But there isnt anything there noticable but could this be because there really isnt anything there or is he being stubborn.

Last if I add 10 more tetras can I add different kinds or do tetras not get along with eachother cause I was thinking like the painted ones or something like that.

You seriously just asked if its a good idea to have 19 fish, one being a pleco in a 10 gallon tank right? Im pretty sure thats not a good idea. I wouldnt do it. I wouldnt do that in a 20 gallon tank.

never buy painted fish its a crime against nature..its really cruel.. you can have mixed tetra in a tank

Any new filter media should be rinsed first in tank water (don't rinse in the tank, take some water out).


I would think you are not far off capacity in your tank, a Pleco would not be a good idea. have you considered a shoal of Corys? You should be OK with about 5 or 6 Peppered or Bronze/Albino. They will munch happily on algae.


To clean the gravel, I would recommend a syphon vac (looks a bit like a willy pump).


I personally would not touch painted or colour-injected fish of any kind. As has been said, it is a crime against nature. Doing so only promotes the business.
