Hi all, I'm still very new to plants. I've been thinking that I like the look of my Hygrophilia (I think it is polysperma ceylon), and would like to get another one. Then it occured to me, that seeing as I bought it in a bunch of strands, why don't I just separate them into two smaller bunches. I'm just wondering, how will I stop them from drifting to the surface? I don't have a spare piece of lead to wrap around what will be the second bunch. Is there something else I could use? Does wrapping something around the stems stunt their growth? Thanks!

You may not need lead, I've never used it for ages - push the base of the stems below the gravel/sand fairly deep and they will soon root and hold well.

Seperate them into individual stems and poke them into your gravel. If you have any tweezers to hand, these work a lot better than fingers as you can get it into the gravel without disturbing the gravel too much :)

As nry says, they shoud root within a week or so and stay put.
