Will a hygrophilia polysperma grow under 1.1 WPG? Do they prefer hard or soft water, and will they become emergent if they reach the top of my tank?

H polysperma will grow with your light. I've grown it with 1 wpg, although quite slowly. It will adapt to any water chemistry, it's famous for this. Like most plants more light and co2 will improve growth but you should be fine.

I beleive all Hygrophila species will grow emergent and adapt accordingly, I've heard many species will produce beautiful flowers when doing so. Good luck.

mine is growing madly under 1wpg, it has become pink at the top and is escaping out of the water. i take out a bagful every week and donate it to my friends! easiest plant ive ever had.

That's good to hear. Sadly I don't have the sunset variety (which you have) so mine won't turn pink as easily. There is a bit of pink on the top of the tallest plant in my 10 gallon, but that tank has 2.6 WPG and Co2.
