Hi there

The guy in the shop told me this was Hydrocotyle, but then after looking round the internet a bit, I realised that it also looks similar to Cardamine lyrata, and I am now not sure which I have!

So, which of these plants is it? It is currently floating, but i would like to get it in the substrate, will it put out roots, or is it one that will always be floating again no matter how hard I try? How should it be looked after re. pruning etc.? Can it make a bush?

Also, I know this is cheekey, but I'm tearing my hair out with this one too if anyone has any adivce!

Thanks a lot everyone!

Having kept Hydrocotyle, IMO, you have Cardamine lyrata. It creeps by nature, so while you can get the growth more compact with pruning as you would prune any other stemplant, it will always try to creep.

Do you mean it creeps along the bottom, or it creeps upward and floats up? It's just I don't want to spend ages trying to get it rooted when it's just going to rot off at the base and float up to creep at the surface. Creeping at the bottom is great!

No, it doesn't rot like that. If you plant it horizontally, should creep along the bottom and over hardscape.
