My suggestion would be only once, and don't put it back again. Zeolite will prevent your tank from cycling as it chemically removes ammonia. The problem comes when it becomes saturated and is no longer absorbing ammonia meaing the ammonia stays in the tank and builds, poisioning your fish. Once you start using it and your tank isn't cycled, you are dependent on it from then on. I would suggest a good ceramic type media such as Seachem Matrix which never has to be changed.
