Ok, I posted once about my blue platy...and this is another. She is very obviously preggo, and yet, there are NO male platies in my tank. I have had her for 6 months, and she only recently became pregnant. The only males I have in my tank are a Silver Molly and a Dalmation Molly that recently passed away. The only other platy in the tank is a female red wag. So all I can figure, is that the Molly impregnated her. Is that even possible? I mean he chases her around alot, trying to breed...but I really didnt think it was possible. :S

The mollies and the platies are from different genus so they can't hybridize (spell???) Platies can store sperm and have several different batches from one mating. (I've experienced this with different generations of swordtails - red, orange, and browney green ones - all from a red female - I don't know which allele for those particular colours would be dominant (??? long time since high school biology so excuse the incorrect use of biology terminology))) In rare cases they can hybridize with swordtails which are in the same genus though I haven't seen this myself.
