hey guys, I've grown so tired of my penguin 150's failing so i picked up a fluval 4 plus for my 20 gallon, Its rated at up to 57 gallons and can push 260 gallons per hour, and I must say with the air hose hooked up to it and it set at HighI nearly blasted the glass off the side  lol. but seriously is there such thing as too much filteration.

and yes I have one of the penguins still running to keep the bio filteration going and to establish it in the new filter

on a side note I also bought a new 10 gallon for my little dwarf puffer, he got the other penguin 150 but i'll probably reeplace it with a small underwater filter

honestly I think he's in heaven, I've not seen so much tail fin in one sitting since I've had him.

also on anoother side note, be very ver very careful when netting an oto as they can get stuck. when i netted him he made a jump at the netting cloth, and as I tried to free him he kept making the situation worse, I did eventually free him but he only moved around for about 5 more minute and died :rip:

what a day. what a day.

I'm sorry but a Fluval 4 is WAY too much for a 20 gallon  I have a Fluval 2 in a 20 gallon US and that's already very strong. You need to come down to a 2 or max 3.

yeah I have to agree, petsmart has a good returns policy so i"ll probably trade it in for a fluval 2 for the puffer tank and a 3 for the community.

It works sooooooo goood and is sooo quiet, tank is spotless, though the gauramis may apreciate it more

I have to go back thier anyways for light bulbs, it seems when i bought the ten gallon, the hood didnt come with any.

thanks

I noticed the sand at the bottom has moved a little and has started to form dunes from the current

at least the fish got a little exercise

might i suggest you get fluorescent bulbs instead of incadescent?

fet the a 5watt or 9watt bulb for your tank. incadescent lights will heat up your tank and they consume more energy anyway... fluorescent is the way to go!

second, there is such a thing as too muhc filtration in some cases, depends on the fish.

like a marine tank, you need to create lots and lots of current as a tropical tank doesn't need as much. Fish that live in ponds are used to slow moving water whereas fish who live in rivers will be used to faster moving waters, depends on your fish

The gouramis will appreciate a Fluval 2 which is perfectly adequate for a 20 gallon :)
Waves and sand dunes are a no-no for gouramis
Petsmart may have a returns policy but I'm pretty sure not if it's been used.
If they don't want it back, sell it here in the "for sale section" (bottom of forum) or pop it on eBay.

indead, I went shopping

one fluval 2 for the community
one fluval 1 for the 10 G puffer tank
1 pack of polyester pads for the 2 (fluval 3, just cut what i need)

2 colormax 25w clear lightbulbs, I like the sparkling water affect

and well they had dwarf puffers so I couldnt help it....

I think I got a female, though it may be to soon to tell. curious little creature

I love the fluvals as they are so quiet, a few weeks and i can pull those penguins out

Great stuff ! I'm sure your fish will appreciate the "calm" again
Post some piccies over in the photo section if you can.
