Hi folks, bit of an odd one here but thought you guys would be the best to ask.

Everytime I have had my hands in the water, I take my hands out and they start to sting and itch like crazy and go rashy!!!

Anyone else had this, I have no skin disorder but am asthmatic, and hopefully not odd

I would wear gloves then if the water irratating your hands sounds like dermatitus.

I'd take a trip down to the local dermatalogist (sp) or a knowledgable pharmacist - sometimes little things like that are warning signs for a skin prob you may have... You 99% can't contract anything from your fish - but it's best to have your hands checked out - will likely be something minor but with pool season approaching - why take a chance...

Considering the very wide variety of people out there, there are people who are allergic to almost anything. That has to include fishtanks, and you are probably just allergic to something in there. It could really be a bear to figure out what it is, it could be the dechlorinator, the gravel, some of the organic excretions from one of your fish, almost anything in there. Gloves may work, but if they don't, a trip to the allergist is a good idea. You may end up having to find someone else to put their hands in your tank for you.

Is it just me?... but when i put my hands in, it makes my skin soft (really soft) as if i just put cream on ... lol. i like putting my hands in lol.

with being asthmatic the odds that you suffer from a skin disorder like dermatitus is quite high, it doesnt have to show on your skin but it can cause your skin to be very sensitive to sudden changes. its a fact that if a family of say 6 carry the genes for asthma, out of the four children, all or none will have asthma but the ones that dont 90% carry the dermatitus gene instead, these two things are closely related in structure and its common for an asthma suffer to also have some form of skin disorder.
this is taken from the horses mouth, (myself) did alot of research into why i had skin disorders

I have a buddy who is allergic to sulfa drugs. Dechlorinators contain things like sodium thioSULFAte, and hydromethane SULFinate. Certain dechlorinators give him skin problems.

I can't use Amquel. My arms turn bright red for days and they really itch. Now I stick to other declorinators. What kind of declorinator are you using?

I'm with krazie2004!!!

My work colleagues always have dry hands and mine are smooth and unlined, despite my advanced age of 41 :hyper:

I tell them that fish crap does wonders for hands!!

my hands always get when when i been working in my tank! other thne that mine are like any other time they have been in water lol

Hiya and thanks for the advice, I am wondering if its likely to be dermatitis specially with the asthma thing. I cant say I like putting my hands in there anyhow, I only have 5 Zebra Danios and 5 baby neon tetras but the things attack me when I put my hands in and I hate the sensation...feels like pins and needles!

Thanks for your help xxx
