Currently I have a growing juvie oscar and midas in a 29 gallon aquarium, so for obvious reasons, I've been looking for something larger for quite some time now... and recently, there was an ad for a 150 gallon + stand posted in the newspaper! It would fit in my room (barely, lol) and I can afford it ($350,) so all that's left is to convince my mother to let me put such a massive item in her house. Wish me luck, guys!!! Pray to the fishie gods that she lets me get it!!
I'm practically salivating thinking of how happy my little babies would be in a 6 footer like that!! :hyper:
It would take up every last inch of space left on the wall behind my computer desk, hehe!

Wow, your mom is lucky to have a kid like you! So many kids these days are into drugs, guns gangs, and other assorted harmful things. Aquatics is such a nice peaceful hobby and you meet so many decent people through that hobby.

Try that one on her.

As a mom (only to a 2yr old, but still), that made me laugh

Parents use guilt trips enough, why not the kids' turn to use it?!

Wow, that really is a good deal - good luck!

My parents let me have my 5 foot tank. It takes up my whole wall too. Hopefully they will let you have it. Just tell them your fish need it or you'll have to get rid of them when they get too big and you're so attached to them and it would break your heart. :p

My parents are actually glad I picked fish out of everything I could pick (dogs, cats, rabbits, etc) because they "don't poop on the floor and don't need to go to the vet" as my dad puts it.

HAHAHA!
Now i dont even ask my parents, I just try setting them up before anyone notices! :D I just went and got 2 more 40 Gls and found out they can't fit in my house since my 10 X 10 room already has 9 tanks in it  they are currently running on the patio, and I'm not disobeying my mother, as she even said "No more aquariums in the house" ;) :D

Or when my parents say "No more tanks in your room." I will buy a fish bowl and get myself a betta. :p Then I'll save the receipt where it says "Fish Bowl" and not "Fish Tank" ;)

My parents flipped about my ten gallon breeding tank.. I was like 'It's a breeding tank, it's temporary, and only half full! That doesn't count. There's not even sand in the bottom!'

..They believed me. ;)

Well, let me remind you that guns are not bad things. They can do bad things, but that means there has to be a person behind it!! I shoot competitively and I would advocate gun education... it would make kids responsible about them. So if one kid came up to another kid and said 'hey let's go play with my dad's gun' the other kid would reply 'no, that's not safe.'
See?
Anyways, sorry to hijack.
I envy you, Snyirr....
Good luck getting the tank! :D

Nothing against guns guppygirl. Just trying to help the kid get another tank. All my kids, 24 22 & 15 have shot all the various firearms I have owned over the years.Saftey with firearms is taught at a very young age in my house. Guns are only a tool. Irresponsibility with any tool will get you hurt.

Yep, no offence to anyone.
I'm a little pro-gun tonight, too, I just came back from weekly practice. :look:
I love shooting, it builds focus, responibility, good posture, etc. Our BB gun team placed 5th internationally last year. :kana: :band: :hooray:
So many people misunderstand guns, it bugs me.

but the point was still valid... I had the other introduction to firearms as a kid (grew up on the wrong side of the tracks in Detroit). If I were a parent... I would love the idea of my kid staying broke because he/she spent all their money on fish....

and I agree / understand guns aren't bad... but irresponsibility is bad and it gets worse when yielding powerful tools.

What a pain in the kiester cleaning that tank is gonna be.

Hope you have a faucet nearby, water changes take quite some time with that big a tank.

There is nothing quite so frustrating as adding ANOTHER 2 gallons and the water goes up a half inch.

25% water change=37.5 gallons :S

Good luck with the tank bro.

I remove/replace 35 Gallons out of my 125 every Tuesday. It's not that big of a deal. Get two 5 gal buckets... set the faucet in the tub at the proper temp (and make sure no one gets in the other shower, grrrrrr) as one bucket is filling you are dumping the other. Takes me about 15 minutes to vac the tank, 15 to refill it and about a total of 15 minutes prep and clean up. Oh… and I use a 50 Gal garbage can to siphon the old water into then dump it on the bushes out front. In the summer time you can cheat and drop the low end of the hose right out the window.

Also since I keep all of my tanks at the same temp I can do several water changes at the same time. If I go full blast I can do 25% WC on a 29, 55, and 125 in under 2 hours. (note, the 55 is cycling but was set up a lil while ago, so I need to get back to this routine).
