I've had my betta in a 6g Eclipse for about 6 months now and a few weeks ago I noticed a huge lump developing on his side. Even under his scales it looked yellow so I was thinking internal infection but I couldn't find any info on what to do about it. The lump got bigger and bigger until it was about the size of a pea. Took a look at him one morning and it had burst in the night, no details, but it was extremely gross.
I put Neo-Plex, a broad spectrum antibiotic, in the water, plus some Jungle brand Fungus Clear so that he wouldn't develop secondary infections, and a few days later I thought to add aquarium salt as well. After about 4 days I noticed a tiny white thing by his jaw and thought parasite! so I threw some Jungle Parasite Clear in as well.
It took about a week and a half but eventually the mass that was left in the wound just worked its way clear of his body and fell out. He's got a gaping hole in his side that looks like someone took an ice cream scooper to him but the wound is clean and it looks like it's going to heal up quite nicely.
word to the wise: Don't euthanise your fishies too early! Bettas are tough little guys and they can recover if given a chance!
