tank temp: 28 degrees C

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): fish seems sluggish and skimming off substrate and guppy are losing fins

Volume and Frequency of water changes: daily 30%

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: King British Fluke treatment

Tank inhabitants: 10 guppy, 3 dwarf gourami, 5 neon tetra, 1common plec 4 platy

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): 1 ballon mollie (deceased)

I have lost 10 fish over night and am at a total loss as to whats happening as the majority of those lost seemed to be fine when tank light were put off. I added ballon molly on saturday and this seems to be when my problems started. if any more info is required i'll do my best to give it. thank you for any help you can give.

could do with getting nitrite and nitrate readings... what test kit are you using?

you've said the fish seemed fine last night, but also said problems started when you added the baloon mollie which seems to contradict that.

can you please explain in more detail what happened since adding the molly, what started showing symptoms and when, when you have lost fish etc etc

generally a sudden overnight death is a sign of some sort of contaminent in the water, could anything have been dropped into the tank overnight, were you doing a lot of cleaning in the room with the tank the night before or anything like that (bleach fumes can get into the water and do serious damage)?

test was carried out at my local well recommended aquatic centre, they said there was nothing to worry about with the water

the reason i say since adding the mollie is that since the the whole tank seemed unsettle with more chasing around than normal.

there was no cleanng carried out in the room housing the tank. thanks for you help

ah ok, well that's fairly usual, you add a new fish and the group dynamic changes so that's no cause for concern.

so have you not seen any symptoms of disease then, just came down this morning to find dead fish?

which fish have died, how are the rest of them looking?

do an immediate large (75%) water change, as overnight big deaths definatley sounds like some contaminent got into the water (could be one of any number of things really, main priority is to get it out and make sure the water is clean). take a sample of water for testing again this evening if you can, write down what the readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are and then post them here for us.

fish that died are: ballon mollie, 1 dwarf gourami, 2 female guppy, 1kising gourami, 3 platy, 2 female endler.

thank you Miss Wiggle

yeah that's not at all normal to happen overnight with no symptoms before hand.

get as much water out of the tank as you can and replace it with new, if the fish don't perk up keep replacing water every day until they do.

you'll also need to monitor you're ammonia and nitrite readings every day (whatevers got into the tank could kill your filter bacteria which will compound your problems) so I'd recommend you buy yourself a decent liquid test kit so you can test your water at home.
