The pleco will be fine, as long as it's a small species as I said. They range from 3 inches to 3 feet, just get something under 6 inches and it'll be fine.
For upper swimmers, you can't go wrong with danios. Personally I recommend pearl danios, since they put on a spectacular color show when they're settled in, but zebra danios (and their fifty million fin, color, and pattern variations) are more common, and a bit smaller.
