i have went back to coldwater to try to breed the white cloud mountain minnow. i have read that they breed better in coldwater rather than tropical. my question is how long will it take for my 28 liter/ 6GAL tank to cycle. also what is the lowest temprature they can live in. it is currently 16c. i have added crushed flake so it will rot on the floor to produce bacteria.
so how long will it take.
thank you

You can't put a exact time on how long it will take to cycle, it varies with everyone. My 100 litre tank took about 3 weeks. I'd also recommend buying pure household ammonia rather than putting food in there, you can buy it from your local Boots.

how much is pure household ammonia. i might just leave it to cycle by itself but im just curious.
also do you think that my tank should be ready within a week. i will take some tests on the 5th day and see how it goes

Just leaving it will result in nothing, pure ammonia from stores is a few quid for more then you'll ever need and gets the job done far better then a tank of rotting food. 1 week is too short, give yourself atleast 2/3 for a complete cycle :)

also you could add "safe start" it worked great for me, it basically just speeds up the cycling process :good:

Every tank will generally have a differnt amount of time that it will take or it took to cycle all the way thourgh. It depends on the size of a tank. Usually a 120 gallon tank will cycle slower then a 29 gallon due to the fsct that the 120 gallon is bigger. The reason why you need to cycle the water is too make sure that all the levels are correctly balanced and that all the beneficial bacteria has settled properly. Usually a tank will have settled and be ready within a week or so. :good:

not true. I cycled my 5 gallon with rotting food. Sadly though i didnt test it for about a month by which time it had cycled so couldnt tell you an exact time

1 week is definitely not long enough. I haven't heard of a tank being cycled in much less than 3 weeks and it can take months.

Fish food will work, but buying bottled ammonia is a much more reliable way to do it.

ok ill but some ammonia. did you say boots asin the fraguerence and body shop and medicine shop.
thanks

Yes, thats correct. Boots the Chemist.

If you don't have any luck there, try Homebase.

The product you are looking for is called "Household Ammonia". :good:
