Still in the planning stages for a new community tank, and had a few questions. Firstly I'm not completely certain on tank size as I don't know what I want yet, so just assume this would be in a suitably sized tank.

So, so far on my list I have 1 Angelfish, 6 black widows and 6 kuhli loaches, and I'd really like to add six female bettas to that, but I'm not sure if their compatible, so does anyone know?

Also do they jump? I know the males do, but do the females? as the tank will have an open top.

Any other comments are welcome
Thanks
Emma

I haven't kept female bettas with any of those fish so I couldn't tell you... but do they jump? Absolutely. In fact, they are much worse than males about jumping. We used to jar them in plastic deli containers with little slots cut in the top for air/feeding, and we would find at least one crispy female a day who had jumped out through the slot. Silly girls. I think they would be less likely to jump in a larger tank, but if you're keeping female bettas, you may want to find a way to cover the tank or at least keep the water level a couple inches below the top of the tank.

I can back that up! They do jump! My girls get anxious when it's feeding time. As soon as I walk over with the food they start dodging around everywhere and I have to have the food ready before I open the lid otherwise they will jump up and try to get it. They are total brats

Thanks for that, ah well guess I'll leave female Bettas for now, the tank will have emergent plants growing out of it, so no way to cover the top.
