Having some issues with some of my plants, in particular Vallis. My substrate is fine sand (Argos play sand) so new plants are having issues until the roots spread. I don't really want to use the iron strips they come with, and I don't have any aquarium gravel left to weigh them down. Any other ideas??

What about a couple of small stones, like the tumbled ones you can usually buy from gardening shops to pretty up the top of potted plants?

Thanks, that sounds like an option. I may get some fishing wire and tie a small stone to the side. I already have a high PH of 8.0 so need to be a bit careful.

I just pick through the garden for long thin rocks, clean them up and tie plants to them with string, the are small enough to bury easily.

yes the stone method is good one i may start doing this if my vellas keep uprooting :(

Plant it, put pebbles round the bottoms on top of the sand, wait to root, remove pebbles. :)
