My beautiful Betta fish Levi has got tail rot... It's not THAT bad, but it's definitely noticeable. I'd like to treat him with Melafix...

I just recently switched Levi from his tiny 2 litre tank to a 1-gallon tank... I know guys... But it'll have to do for now.

Anyways... What should I do? I have a nice full bottle of Melafix... But am worried about:

-How much I should put in
-How often I should add
-If I should change water while treating
-Are airstones REALLY necessary?
-How long do I have to treat him?
-What other precautions should I take?

-x-

Levi is:

-Showing vibrant colors
-Still flairs at the mirror
-VERY energetic
-SOMETIMES clamps fins. Not often though.
-Resilient and recovers quickly from stress

Please help me with my current situation, not with the situation of the tank. Mom says I can have her 10 gallon tank once all the fish in it dies...

Thanks so much in advance. =)

melafix is used to stop infections on wounded fish as its anti-bacterial, you need an finrot treatment, not sure what you have in Canada but its not melafix you need.
