How to size an angel

When people talk about an angelfish growing to 6 inches, do they mean the body size or the size from the tips of the fins, top to bottom and including the body ?

no question is dumb

when talking about angels it is normally the disc size.

thanks for that - I did think it would be the actual body, but then I just got this massive doubt thing rearing up all of a sudden, so I thought I'd better check. I based it on body size when buying my angels, so my new tank will have plenty room.
