hi
long time since i’ve been here. hope you are safe from whatever weather problem where you live! i have had a/c on constantly for almost 3 weeks. upper 90s
my question- i would like to shorten my Python clean and fill tubing. it’s 75 feet long. i don’t need that much because i have one aquarium now. it doesn’t need that much length. i don’t know what connector parts are needed. there are male or female ( peculiar names!) and other connectors. can someone tell me what parts i will need?
thanks

If the hose is intact, with all the parts working, cut it to length and put the pieces back on as they were. A 75 footer is expensive, and it seems a shame, but two 35 foot hoses are good too, as they only last about ten years or so of use, and having handy replacement might be good if the tank is close enough to the water source. Just store one out of the sun.

As long as the python works as is, you need no parts to shorten it. Just cut and put it back together. Make sure you measure correctly!

thanks— i don’t need any other parts?

If it's just cutting the hose to shorten it - store one piece and transfer what was attached to it to the newly modified section.

I have never used Python for what most do which is vacuuming and refilling. I do use their vacuum but with a short hose so it goes into a bucket. I also do most of my emptying and refilling using pumps and hoses. However, because I used to sell at weekend fish events I needed to be able to adapt my hoses to any water source. Hotels have a variety of sink faucets and I needed to be able to adapt to them. So I have almost every different adapter Python offers.

My stems of hoses is also universally garden hose connection based. So I can screw a garden hose into any of my pumps and my utitlity sink which has a garden hose compatible facet connection. Since all of the Python hoses use garden hose type connectors, I do have a couple of Python hoses. I normally buy a long hose and cut it to size. So I need to make the various length pieces have connections on them.

To do this I get the Python hose connections you would want to make the excess hose usable the way the piece with the connectors on each end works. So here is what you need to make a piece of Python hose which lacks connectors have them.

The term male and female relates to the nature of the connection used. If you have ever used a garden hose you already know that the connectors on each end are different. You should also know that you can connect them to each other. So you need to have a different connector on each end. One is male and the other female.

You can buy these on Amazon and here is what you need. Incidentally, you would use the same connectors to replace the ones which come on the hoses should one of them break.

The threaded end on the right is what makes the above a male connector. Male connector on Amazon

FEMALE:

The threaded insert on the left end is what makes the above a female connector. Female connector on Amazon

I hope the above answers your question.
