I currently use "View New Posts", but even when I mark a particular thread or even the whole board/forum read, it doesn't reduce the list.

For the people who "live" here and read all the posts, what is the best workflow for you ?

Odd.. i use the view new posts too, then click on the "mark all forums as read and return to the index" and that works for me...

failing that, i will have a quick catch up in the main forum sections that i read, and then go back t the view new posts to browse the others..

Since there are so many sections that I don't visit (SW, Oddball, etc) I son't use the "View New Posts" link. I simply go into the sections that I frequent and look to see what's new or if a thread that I've replied to has any new posts.

I like to receive an email when someone posts on a thread I've posted on. That way I can check them first and reply if one seems called for. After that I just browse the forums I moderate, and a few others I find interesting. :D

I always use the "View New Posts". I scan each "page" of posts, look for ones that are in sections I frequent, or that have titles of interest to me or that I think may need a little moderation ;) . I don't have time to read each and every thread most days so I look for ones that I think I might need or want to check out. When I get to the last page, I'll usually hit the View New Posts again, go back to page one, see if any new threads were bumped up to the top, then I hit Mark All Forums As Read and browse certain sections at random. After a time, I'll hit View New Posts again. This way, the list is smaller throughout the day (its just first thing in the morning that I have to wade through a couple hundred threads that cropped up between leaving work the evening before and loggin back in the following morning). It gives me a chance to scan the entire forum and look for topics that I may know nothing about but still find interesting to read (such as Saltwater threads, especially photo threads).

I just subscribe to interesting threads (there is an "options" button at the top right on the thread, in the same bar as the title. "Track this Thread" is the option I use). That way, I know when people have posted in threads I want to read, like tank journals and that lot. When I have excess time, then I comb through other sections and post randomly... like I'm doing right now xD

Thanks for all the replies, this is/was my biggest problem :

ATM I'm learning, so I'm trying to read a LOT and that makes it hard.

I know I'm a newb, but I was thinking the other day that I could put cichlids in a planted community tank and the LFS said NO!!!!. That's another thread, but thanks for the advice on reading.

I go to the sections that interest me and read all the new threads on the first page... usually if anything has drifted to the second page by the time I get around to checking the forum it goes unseen by me, unless it's a specific thread I'm interested in.
