I was hired to limb up a very large live oak recently and wound up with several beautiful pieces of wood that would look perfect in my aquaruim, but the problem is that they were living on the tree up until about three days ago, and an even bigger problem is that some of them are too big to boil.

Would getting a used plastic 55gal drum (fom local coca cola bottling plant) and using 10% bleach For a week or two followed by a soak in  huge dose of dechlorinator work?

Or maybe just forgetting the big ones and alternately baking and boiling the smaller pieces?

As far as I know, you cannot use pieces that are still alive.
I think you will need to sun dry it for several weeks before trying to do anything with it.

I'm not completely sure on this, so hopefully someone else can come along and offer some advice :)
