How To Prune A Java Fern

My java fern is starting to grow new little java ferns on the tips of the leaves. How big do they have to be before I can take them off and put them with my drift wood? And how would I remove them frim the leaf?

You can either pull them off the leaf but you risk damaging the rhizome and you'll be leaving behind an ugly looking leaf.. or you can just trim the leaves with the plantlets on.

I just leave them alone. Once the leaves get around 2 inches long they tend to fall off by themselves, or you can gently pull them loose. Tie them to a piece of driftwood with thread or light fishing line and you will soon have a nice new clump.
