How would I go about propagating Hygrophilia? Do you just clip the top off and bury it all?

Thanks

Yep make sure the leafs are above the gravel, i like to wait a little untill the shoots start to develop arial roots before i cut them, it helps them get started when you replaant them.

Thanks for your help.

It's not hard at all, just follow the advice given. I even have a small plant that originated from one leaf! Now it's a small plant with 7 leaves and quite a few roots. It is almost ready to moved to a planted tank. Right now, it's in a betta bowl with a compact florescent as light. The leaf fell off the orginal plant while I was doing maintenance one day, and boom! New plant. I have found that Hygrophilia deformis does this too, I never thought to keep the deformis since I have so much of it.

I started with 5 stems of this in my 29 gal and now my 55 and my 10 are loaded with this stuff cuz I trim and dont like to toss it in the bin!

I've only had it for a week and it's already growing nicely. I have a low light set up so I'm hoping that it will grow well.

I think h polysperma is actually classified as a weed and has actually invaded some areas of wetland wreaking havoc with the ecosystem. I have often wondered if you can get a whole tank to be covered with hygro from one single strand, just cutting off and replanting.

I really like it though, it looks great and grows well in all types of setup.

I've read that also. I guess thats why it grows so well.

Yes lol i put one plant into a 60ltr tank and watched it grow and grow and grow untill it colapsed under its own weight and sent roots into the sand it crept its way across the tank and filled it.

Belive it or not it makes a good floating plant as well i put in my fry and bette tanks as a bit of a shelter, and it still grows

:D this is true, my friend has recently got well into mbuna and does not want to grow plants at all, but he has some angelfish and loach in a rio 180 which he is keeping going from his old tank. The tank was previously a loach setup and has a substrate of silver sand, nothing else, just the standard juwel lights, 2 of. Nothing else, we put some hygro in there which was literally a few strands, as well as some c helferi, both from one of my tanks. The helferi died but the hygro just seemed to grow and grow, he kept propegating it and now it flourishes in the tank and has practically filled it. Amazing plant!
