Hi, i have some plants (and ive tryed the pinned topics, and tryed identifying it myself) and i still dont know what they are... They came with those ties on, and so i took them off, and put the roots under the sand, and covered them, so that they didnt float. Im just wanting to know, have i done this properly? Will they continue to grow, as long as there is light on them, and will the become anchored??? Can i tie them onto the bogwood or the stones i have, like people do with java ferns?

Thanks alot, Mikey

P.S sorry for being a total novice

hey! ive just got into the plant world myself acctually. what plants do you have? only a few can be tied to wood i think but im not 100% sure on that one :look: its mostly java fern or moss that is tied to wood and it looks amazing. ive done this myself...well just the java fern anyway...and they are producing oxygen which is a good thing!
i also have another plant, sort of a grass looking plant, (forgot what its called but you can get it twisted too) which is spread around one end of the tank so fish can swim in it all. all i did with this was put some of that metal stuff, lead i think, and they fall to the bottom. i put their roots under rocks, wood and the sand. all is well.
im hopefully going to add another plant called an amazon sword soonish. i kno this name because its the only one ive managed to keep alive before.
for this im going to put some pond soil in a yoghurt pot which is cut to the depth of my sand and plant the sword in the soil. then cover the soil with sand. if this works, it'll be an inventor! :look:

hope ive been some help.

Yeah you have, thats what ive got, an amazon sword :good:
Will it grow under the substrate?
Will i be able to attatch the remaining pieces i have to the rocks/bogwood?

Thanks for your help pink :good:

Amazon swords should anchor themselves well as they have huge roots. If ever you pull it up the length of the roots really will suprise you!

Vallis? And corkscrew vallis?

This may work for some other plants, but i think there wouldnt be enough space for the roots of an amazon sword. the roots could soon fill the space of a small yogurt pot.

There are only a few plant species you can attach to wood. The roots of java fern attach themselves to the wood which is something not many other plants do. Mosses are good for attaching to wood, as are anubias species.

As for how you planted the plant, it sounds correct, removing the tie etc. If you want the plant id'ing, try uploading a picture.

Amazon swords grow under/ontop of the substrate, but you can't really tie them on wood, well I suppose you can but they won't take hold, the roots will just grow down to the sand, and they won't get any nutrients from anywhere so they may end up dead.

Ok thanks for your help, ill put them all along the back, in the sand...
Is there anything that they need to live?
I dont really want to get Co2, but can i feed it or anything???

Thanks, Mikey
