So, I'm boiling some eggshells up now and I'm wondering about a few things... How long should I boil? Do I take them out of the tank and if so when?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
Its for the calciumYou’re feeding egg shells to snails? Any particular reason why?
New to me, as are many fishy things.
Thanks! See, I dont want to add cuttlebone or coral, because I dont want the water to be really hard... But thank you! And I have rinsed and boiled these.“just use the egg shell. But the inside and out must be cleaned (boiled) to kill off any bacteria that might live on it. But the calcium content isn't that high. Coral or a cuttle bone have a much higher content of calcium, they are much denser and larger. It would take a lot of egg shell to equal the same amount of the other.”
Found this for you, Rocky! lots of online info.
Yes... It helps their shells stay hard and grow betterSnails benefit from calcium supplements? Interesting!
Sure lolWhen you get foot tall snails with shells like turtles can I have one?
Luckily, these snails dont get that big... But if I ever see one taking up half my aquarium space, I'll send some over... Cause I dont have that space lolSure lol
So I just put it in as a chunk? I heard you should crush it up in a bag... I'm just wondering is allIf you put the egg shells in hot water and bring it to the boil, then let it boil for a couple of minutes, it will kill anything on it.
After the shell has cooled down, drop it in the tank. You can replace it whenever you like. It's mainly calcium and shouldn't rot or do anything bad to the water.
Ok, I put in 1/4 of the shell. Thanks! You can crush it up and put it in a bag if you like but I would just drop pieces (or the entire shell) in the tank and let the snails eat it.
