I have been trying to feed my gouramis zucchini, and they love it! However, it sinks immediately to the bottom, even if I cut it in very small pieces. The only ones currently profiting from the zucchini are my serpae tetras and my cories!

How can I make sure that the gouramis get their share?

You can buy little clip things that you can use (they are made for lettuce I believe) or you can train your fish to take it from your hand (which is what I do - all it takes is patience). If you feed a little flake and then slice the zucchini into small pieces, the gouramies should attempt to eat some of it that way as well.

I always have to weight my zuchinni down because all it does is float if I dont..But I hear those clips are good.

Yeah - it floats for me too :p But it can be pushed to the bottom if you have a relatively forceful current out of your filter.

Mmm, my current is not strong, but it does not float. Maybe I should try thinner slices. Does anyone have a picture of a so-called lettuce clip? Ihave never seen them before here, but it might give me some ideas.....

Thanks for the answers.

I use a trick to make the zucchini sink but it would keep it up as well. I use a metal BBQ skewer and slide the zucchini pieces on to it, tie a piece of fishing line through the loop on the end (the bit you'd normally hold while eating) drop the skewer in with the fishing line hanging over the side of the tank, that way I don't have to put my hand in the tank to take it out later.

But if you tied the fishing line up close to the top of the tank, that would stop the zucchini sinking and your Gourami would be able to get to it easily. Although I have to say, mine eats it from the bottom of the tank anyway :)

Mine would eat it from the bottom if they had a chance! But my other fish, and especially the cories become very possessive and guard their pieces. The BBQ skewer/fishline idea is very good! :good: I will definitively try it!
