How To Maintain Water Temp?

I just got a heater for my whitespot problem. Never used one before and I'm wondering how do I get the new water to the same temp when doing a WC? Do I remove the heater from the tank and put it in the new water?

Test the new water with your hand. The human hand is very good testing up to a few degrees either way. This is good enough.

Yes I know that, but how do I get the new water warm enough?
